Monday August 21 9:38 am
Been feeling: Slightly overwhelmed seems to be the running theme here
Been humming: "Hey Mona Lisa", Ryan Auffenberg
Sometimes when I wake up in the morning I bolt upright as if I were released from a catapult, it’s an urgent feeling of sudden awareness, “Lord, what am I forgetting to do right now?” Strangely (or maybe not so strangely), I find these days very productive.
Today may just be one of them.
It’s back to business. This is the usual Monday feeling of things. After spending Friday and Saturday, gigging, or playing music with friends, staying up waaaaay past midnight (yeah, that’s right, I’m a rebel) and using Sunday as a buffer to recover, Monday usually starts quite well. Organized.
Picking up where I left off, today I got up early, I signed in, caught up on emails, myspaced, web sited, ran to the bank, and even had time to go to the dentist. Apparently I clench my jaw a lot and was told not to chew gum ever again… Goodbye my sweet bubbly friend.
One of the projects I’ve been most excited about, however, is my brand new band merchandise. That’s right, we’re getting new t-shirts!
This is how it happened: one day, deep in a conversation with my friend Pride Wright, we stumbled over the subject of how even an indie band in this day and age can be environmentally conscious and, without much extra cost, actually be more sustainable.
Being that my mom is one part city girl and two parts hippie tree hugging granola lover, the subject was quite close to my heart.
I, myself, really knew nothing on the subject, but was shocked when I was told some of the things that were harmful to – not only our planet, but also to ourselves!
So recently I was introduced to an awesome company called TS Designs that sells 100% sweatshop free and 100% organically grown cotton t-shirts. (Apparently conventionally grown cotton is sprayed with more chemical pesticides and herbicides than any crop on the planet except for coffee.)
The company has also developed Rehance, an innovative alternative to the PVC (polyvinyl chloride) based plastisol inks that are the norm in screen-printing. Even the artwork on the shirt is completely breathable and doesn’t have that plastic feel.
These t-shirts look great, are SO comfy and such fantastic quality, I am so excited to have found them. The cool part is they’re really not much more expensive than other t-shirts of this quality.
I didn’t mean to get too “geeky” on you, but this is a really fun project and I wanted to share it with you. I can’t wait until the shirts are done so I can see what you think.
If you want to check out the company, here’s the link: TS Designs
And now, off to my appointment. I’d better floss; I’d like to tell the dentist I know how to do it.
Yours,
megan
